acgcGoing into the holiday break last season, the Charger boys basketball team didn’t record a single win. This season the team has already matched their win total from their inaugural campaign, finishing 2017 with a record of 3-6. The Chargers are hoping the improvements continue as they head into January.

Senior Caden Wardyn leads the offensive charge with nearly 15 points per game, and is on pace to reach 500 points in his career before the end of January. Sophomore Quynton Younker has also showcased his skills this season, averaging 13 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. Wardyn is third in total scoring and fifth in points per game in the West Central Activities Conference, while Younker and Wardyn are second and fourth in total rebounds respectively.

However, the team is struggling to hang on to the ball. ACGC leads the conference in total turnovers, averaging nearly 20 per game. Sophomore Bryce Littler is fourth in all of Class 2A with 43 turnovers. However, Littler is fourth in the conference in free-throw percentage with a minimum of ten shots attempted.

Last season the Chargers averaged 41 points per game. That number has shot up to 54 points per game this year. The Chargers will open 2018 on Tuesday, January 2nd against Van Meter. The game starts at approximately 7:30 pm with pre-game coverage at 5:45 and the girls game at 6 from Guthrie Center. You can catch the games on True County K107.9.
