The high school wrestling regular season is over for teams in Iowa’s smallest two classes and the postseason begins tomorrow. Greene County goes to Winterset for a Class 2A Sectional tournament starting at 12 p.m. Joining the Rams and Huskies are ADM, Clarke (Osceola), Creston/Orient-Macksburg, and Woodward-Granger. The top two individuals in each weight class advance to a District Tournament in Harlan on Feb. 10, while the top two teams at Winterset move on to dual meet Regional competition.

Greene County head coach Mark Sawhill expects to fill 12 of the 14 weight classes tomorrow. He said the team isn’t 100% healthy with minor injuries being the main culprit. The coach added the Rams have, for the most part, avoided being hit with the flu or other serious illnesses.

None of Greene County’s wrestlers have been rated in the top 10 at any point of the season by the various rating entities. The top record on the team belongs to senior Cayden Gerdes at 132 lbs. He’ll take a 25-6 mark to Winterset.
