Since 2013 the City of Stuart has been improving the housing market in town with the Wambold Additions. However, that’s not the only Adair County community looking at domestic improvements. Greenfield is also addressing a need for more housing.
Greenfield Chamber Main Street recently facilitated a housing study to examine the current market in the city. Director Stacie Hull explains the need for the study and what it will do for the community. “One of our needs, we hear a lot, is housing. The study will help us develop a plan for what types of housing we need. Whether that’s apartments or low income or higher end; what size of units we need. That will be a big initiative for our community development (corporation) this year.”
This study could be part of the key to solving Greenfield’s overall population decline. According to the most recent US Census, Greenfield’s population has decreased about 12% since its peak in the 1980s.
