acgcYesterday the IHSAA officially released the district pairings for the Class 2A Boys Basketball postseason. The ACGC Chargers will meet a familiar foe in the opening round on Monday, February 12th, drawing the Woodward-Granger Hawks in Woodward. The Chargers also host the Hawks to finish the regular season on Tuesday.

In their regular season meeting in Woodward, the Hawks were without their leading scorer Keith Braunschweig. However, the Hawks used a 18-5 third quarter rout to seal a 62-37 win. The Hawks were led by junior Sam Peterson’s 15 points, five rebounds, and three steals. Senior JP Nixon and Sophomore Bryce Achenbach were also on double-double patrol, with a combined 17 points, 10 rebounds, and nine assists.

In that contest senior Caden Wardyn scored a team high 15 points, while Bryce Littler added nine. Even though the Chargers come in to the District 15 Tournament as the sixth seed, Head Coach Jake Mohling is confident they may be able to surprise someone. He especially noted the difficult nature of playing one team three times. “When you beat a team two times during the season and then you meet them for a third time, beating a team three times in one season is a very hard thing to do.”

The Charger boys have a tough task tonight before starting that back-to-back series. ACGC will battle the Van Meter Bulldogs tonight, with tip-off immediately following the girls game. You can catch both games from Van Meter, with pregame coverage starting at 5:45pm on KKRF2 and the Raccoon Valley Radio Network.
