The three high school Winter sports for the Greene County Rams will all be in action this Saturday. All are at different times and different places.

Greene County qualified juniors Brock Wuebker at 170 lbs. and Clint Dennhardt at 182 lbs. to the Harlan Class 2A District wrestling tournament, but Raccoon Valley Radio was informed Wednesday that Dennhardt won’t be wrestling because he contracted the skin disease that shut down the program for much of January. That leaves just Wuebker to represent Greene County. There are four wrestlers in each weight class and the first and second place finishers advance to the Feb. 15-17 State Tournament at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. Dennhardt placed first and Wuebker second at the Feb. 3 Winterset Sectional Tournament. Wrestling starts at 12 p.m. Other area teams represented at Harlan include ADM, Winterset, and Woodward-Granger.

The Rams play non-conference make up basketball on Saturday (weather permitting) at Winterset. A freshman game is set for 11 a.m., followed by a JV contest, then the varsity game around 2 p.m. This will be the fourth time the teams have attempted to play after the first three were weathered out.

It’s the postseason for the Greene County girls’ basketball team. The 5-15 Rams take on 9-11 East Sac County in Sac City on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. Coverage begins at 6:20 p.m. with tip off at 7 p.m. It’s the opening round of Class 3A Region 8 action, and Saturday’s winner travels to highly rated Cherokee on Valentine’s night for a 7 p.m. contest.
