jefferson welcomeA free hazardous waste drop-off collection will be happening for Jefferson-area residents on Saturday, August 17th.

The City of Jefferson urges its citizens to come out to the county fairgrounds on Lincoln Way from 9-11am on August 17th to get rid of their hazardous waste materials.

Some of the items that are accepted are aerosol cleaners and paints, rechargeable batteries, fertilizers and pesticides, fluorescent light bulbs, oil and much more.

Needles or sharp objects will also be accepted.  They must be in a detergent bottle or sharps containers with the lids taped on.  You can not drop-off those items if they are in a milk jug or a soda pop can.

Items that will not be accepted are ammunition, asbestos, electronics, explosives, fire extinguishers, latex paint, medications, propane tanks, cylinders and radioactive materials.

–  Lead-based paint

–  Stains/varnishes/metal polishes and rust removers

–  Thermometers and thermostats (mercury)

–  Petroleum adhesives
