Facing the highest ranked team you’ve played on their diamond to open the postseason is a challenge for any team. That’s what first year head coach Matt Paulsen and the Greene County Rams have ahead of them Friday night when they meet fourth ranked Dallas Center-Grimes to begin Class 3A District 15 action in Dallas Center. Atlantic and Carroll meet in Dallas Center at 5 p.m. followed by the Rams and Mustangs. Friday’s winners meet at 7 p.m. in Dallas Center for the district title.

Greene County knocked off eighth ranked Gilbert at Gilbert last year in the opening round of Class 3A district baseball before losing to Boone in the district title game. The 2020 Rams lost their first seven games and finished the regular season and Heart of Iowa Activities Conference schedule at 3-11. The regular season ended on a high note on Monday with a 6-4 victory in eight innings at Nevada.
