The first week of athletic competition for the Greene County Rams in 2021 sets up to be a busy one for the basketball players and wrestlers. As always, COVID-19 concerns determined whether the events go off as planned.
Coach Zach Beekman’s wrestlers are scheduled for three events next week starting with a quadrangular on Jan. 5 in Greenfield vs. Nodaway Valley, Martensdale-St. Mary’s, and Woodward-Granger. A trip to Southeast Valley High School is on the schedule for Jan. 7 vs. the host Jaguars, along with Audubon, and Ogden. The Rams go to the Webster City Tournament on Saturday, Jan. 9. So far, the Rams are 5-4 in dual meets and they’ve won their last four in a row.
The basketball Rams are set to host Webster City on Jan. 5, then host Saydel (Des Moines) on Jan. 8. Coach Todd Gordon’s girls are 2-3 while the boys, under the direction of Chris Nelson, are 0-5. Both basketball doubleheaders can be heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com from the new Greene County High School gym in Jefferson.
