As the Iowa Legislature passed through its second funnel week there are still important topics that will be moving forward.

State Senator for District 10 Jake Chapman says there are still a couple big item topics which are still on the table for debate. Chapman says while the final phase of the legislative session prioritizes the budget there are other things such as broadband access.

“I am certain that there is going to continue to be conversation about broadband and how we are going to be able to create a network within broadband so people can be connected at a reliable speed. That is something that I think there is discussion and there is going to continue to be discussion between the house and senate.”

Chapman says another important topic that he feels will continue to be discussed is the life amendment that would alter the state’s constitution to say there is no constitutional right to an abortion. Chapman says there will be other topics on the table but the budget will take precedence.

“We really are starting to go into the final phase of the session which is budgeting and finding a pathway to adjourn the session.”

The 89th Iowa General Assembly is scheduled to end on April 30th.
