After having one of the most traditional high school events stripped away last year because of the pandemic, Greene County High School is gearing up for this year’s junior-senior prom.

Junior Class President Avery Walker says this year’s prom is going to be “The Golden Gala” with some changes to how the event will look. The event will be on Saturday, beginning with photos from 4-5:30pm at the Wild Rose Greene Room events center in Jefferson, followed by the grand march from 6-7pm at the high school auditorium. The banquet and dance will take place back at the Greene Room from 7-11pm, followed by after-prom from 11:30pm-2:30am at the Greene County Community Center. 

Some of the COVID-19 precautions include allowing only two guests per student to watch the grand march, students will be required to wear masks and only teachers are allowed to chaperone the event. Junior Class member Lucy Dudley talks about the importance of having prom return this school year.

“We are extremely blessed as a high school to be able to attend a prom this year. As you may know our homecoming dance was cancelled and our winter formal dance (was cancelled). This will be our seniors final dance of high school ever until they enter the real world. It means so much that we are able to do this considering COVID-19. It just means a lot that we are all able to gather for one night.”
