No two high school football seasons are alike, and that’s the case with the 2022 Greene County Rams. The ’21 Rams were led by a large group of seniors, and that team went 8-2 overall, including 5-0 in Class 2A District 8 to easily win the title, and was ranked as high as third in the polls.
Most of the time when a large number of seniors graduate and the next group is small in number, it means a rebuilding year. Greene County head coach Caden Duncan told Raccoon Valley Radio the Rams don’t have that mindset, but rather like the idea of being the defending champions and being pursued by opponents. When official practice begins tonight, the Rams could have as few as four seniors on the team. Those are brothers Patrick and Richard Daugherty, Jesse Miller, and Josh Janssen. All are returning letter winners and the two Daugherty’s and Miller, accrued postseason honors in ’21. Miller has already committed to play football at the U. of South Dakota a year from now, and Richard Daugherty was named All-State last season as a return man. He’s also a standout receiver and defensive back, while Patrick is a running back/linebacker. Miller is a tight end/defensive end, and Janssen is a two-way lineman.
A number of juniors and some sophomores are expected to play key roles this season as well. All Greene County football games will be broadcast on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
