AmericanFlagWe heard from artist Bubba Sorensen yesterday as he discussed what his plans are for the Guthrie County Freedom Rock that he’ll begin painting today.

While Sorensen didn’t give us too many details, he does admit the Guthrie County rock will differ from those he’s painted in other counties across the state.  He explains…

“What the Freedom Rock committee in Guthrie County is looking to do is go a little bit more specific with their thank you, so they’ve really delved into the Guthrie County history of veterans and have found some unique stories from men that served what they served doing.  We’re going to try and illustrate those specific stories.  The (committee) talked about some other veterans monuments being in Guthrie Center and elsewhere in the county and they thought, ‘we’ll leave those being the broad thank you… we want the Freedom Rock to be specific stories and specific thank yous’.”

With work beginning today on the Guthrie County Freedom Rock, Sorensen says he blocks off two weeks for his visits to each of the counties in which he paints.  However, he hopes to be done with the rock by next Friday.
