According to Tiffany Steensen, Family Development Center Coordinator, one of the favorite programs that she oversees is the mentoring program at New Opportunities Guthrie County Family Development Center.

A mentor, who is an adult, is assigned to a mentee, a child, to spend one hour per week or two hours every two weeks on an activity that they both agree on. It can be anything from spending time at the park or working on homework.

Steensen’s job is to review the applications that have been submitted by both the mentor and the mentee and then match them up accordingly. Steensen also adds that mentees are usually submitted by parents and the programs work with area schools to benefit the children as well.

If you or someone you know would be interested in being a Mentor, please contact Tiffany Steensen at 641-747-3845 for more information and to receive an application.
