New artwork is being installed in Jefferson in the downtown area.
Jefferson Matters Executive Director Matt Wetrich says people may have noticed that a mural is being painted on the north wall of the Fields of Karma, formerly known as the Funky Zebras building, on North Wilson Avenue that started earlier this week.
“And should maybe take a week (or) two at most, depending on the weather, we think. And it’ll be really neat because it’ll be filling up the majority of that wall on that north side. So a few different pieces of art in that alley there between that building on (the Jefferson) City Hall. So, really cool to see that.”
Tower View Team Chair Deb McGinn says the artist is Marissa Hernandez from Altoona and the artwork is about people enjoying nature. She notes that Hernandez doesn’t use peoples’ faces in her artwork, because the artist wants them to visualize themselves as those in the painting.
McGinn explains the new artwork is part of a $35,000 Grow Greene County Gaming Corporation grant that TVT received earlier this year. McGinn notes that musician and artist Chad Elliott will be starting on some murals on the Greene County Historical Museum later this fall, and a new rooftop art will be done at a later date, as they also received a $10,000 donation from the Bell Tower Community Foundation.
