There are currently many hunting seasons in effect as the fall season is upon us in Iowa, but one of those comes to a close tomorrow.
According to Iowa Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer for Dallas County Dustin Eighmy, hunters still have time to participate in the Special September Teal season that only lasts for nine days. He says this is the time where only teal are allowed to be harvested, and notes that shooting hours range from sunrise to sunset.
“And the reason for that is so you can properly identify the teal coming in, because sometimes they are mixed in with the wood ducks and other mixed bags, so we want you to only shoot those teal that are coming in. Again, that is another great opportunity for the youth to get out, those teal come in in groups and they’re fast, and it’s a very fun shooting activity.”
Eighmy adds that hunters need to confirm they have their valid licenses and encourages individuals to wear blaze orange, especially in the early morning or later evening hours. The Special September Teal season began on September 6th and ends tomorrow.
