Greene County Medical Center is highlighting October as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The medical center invites all businesses to decorate their storefronts pink in support of their campaign of “Paint the Town Pink,” as well as posting photos on social media and tagging Greene County Medical Center. Organizers say those who participate can be entered into a contest for prizes, with judging to take place the week of October 13th, leading up to National Mammography Day on October 17th.

Additionally, Director of Imaging Heather Booth says early detection of breast cancer is key to have an increase in survival. She states when breast cancer is found early, the five-year survival rate is 99 percent and if detected late, the rate drops to 32 percent. She invites everyone to take advantage of Walk-In Mammo Mondays from 8am-4pm, with a special extended mammogram hours on Monday, October 27th from 8am-6:30pm. Patients must have their last mammogram results be on file with the medical and it must be at least one year since their last mammogram.

Booth also encourages everyone to wear pink on Fridays during October in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
