Adel-DeSoto-Minburn senior diver Eliza Schmidt reminisces on her accomplishments she garnered during her high school career.

ADM partners with the Waukee School District for swimming and diving, where Schmidt was able to end her high school journey by advancing to the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union’s State Diving Meet in Iowa City in mid-November, tallying eighth place with a score of 392.95. She shares that growing up, she was a competitive gymnast and then with the similarities to diving, Schmidt transitioned to the pool.

During her junior year, Schmidt broke the Waukee school record in the 11-dive category with a total score of 407.65. This season, she was selected as an All-State Honorable Mention by the Iowa High School Swimming Championships Association, and feels honored to be recognized at that level.

“To me, it shows my school, my family (and) everyone that supported me that it really mattered and that the coaches also recognized the work that I put in, and how far I’ve come.”

Schmidt details that she is grateful for the friendships she’s made with girls through the Waukee partnership, and says she’ll miss those relationships she’s created with all of her teammates. Following graduation in the spring, Schmidt is planning on attending Iowa State University in Ames, majoring in Biology on the Pre-Occupational Therapy track.

The full interview with Schmidt can be heard on Monday’s edition of the Raccoon Valley Bank Dallas County PM Sports Magazine on KDLS 94.3/99.7 FM and AM 1310.
