Greene County made an attempt to lower times in certain track and field events on Tuesday at Earlham. Performances for possible Drake Relays track & field qualification must be submitted by 7 a.m. this Friday and the Rams had both the girls and boys run the 4 x 100 meter relay as well as limited individual events.
Senior Drew Wolterman ran the 400 meter dash in 51.69 seconds, breaking his own record in the years the Rams have competed as Greene County. Wolterman won the race by a comfortable margin. Head coach Chad Morton told Raccoon Valley Radio the 4 x 100 meter relay quartet of senior Aden Bardole and juniors Lincoln Schwander, Zack Stalder, and Jaron Jacobs. ran 43.84 seconds, moving them up some 40 spots in the effort to qualify for the Drake Relays. The coach said it’s been at least 10 years since a Greene County quartet ran the 4 x 100 this fast.
The girls events from Greene County were 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 meter relays, both finishing third. The 4 x 100 was timed in 52.65 seconds with seniors Addison Gannon, Kaycee Pittman, Becca Anderson, and junior Vanessa Hale. The 4 x 400 keeps lowering its time with sophomore Hanna Fouch, along with Gannon, Pittman, and Anderson. They were timed in 4:13. 53.
In the 4 x 100, Drake accepts the fastest 96 entries and entering Tuesday the Rams were barely inside the top 96 while the girls were outside of that number.
