A Greene County city recently received a large amount of federal funding to replace old and outdated infrastructure.
The US Department of Agriculture announced that the city of Churdan is a recipient of $985,000 from the Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant Program. According to the USDA, the money will help replace the town’s aging water main that has a high rate of water loss, along with replacing lead fixtures and installing an elevated water tank.
The USDA states that this loan and grant program provides funding for clean and reliable drinking water systems, sanitary sewage disposal and storm water drainage to households and businesses in rural areas.
US Senator Chuck Grassley, who sits on the Senate Agriculture Committee, was thrilled for this announcement from the USDA. He says Iowans rely on sound infrastructure to live and work and he is glad to see that these funds are going to places like Churdan to help the community provide for the health and safety of its residents and protect its water services.
The USDA adds that the estimated cost of the entire project is $6,650,000.
