The Stuart Fire Department was dispatched for a building fire Saturday night.

Fire Chief Stephen Martinson says that the department was paged at 11:25pm for a car on fire in a garage behind 324 Northwest 2nd Street in Stuart. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that once on scene, it was found that the car was inside the garage, and both were engulfed. Stuart Fire requested mutual aid assistance from Dexter and Menlo Fire Departments, and coordinated a quick and successful attack on the fire. Martinson mentions that crews remained on scene to perform overhaul and extinguishing hot spots, and that all units were cleared out at 12:38pm. He adds that both the garage and the vehicle were deemed a total loss, and that it was determined that a fuel fire caused while mechanical work was being done was the cause of the blaze.
