District 12 Senator Amy Sinclair
In the previous week, the Iowa Senate once again discussed a bill regarding nuclear energy facilities.
District 12 Senator Amy Sinclair says that Senate File 2498 made its way through their Appropriations Committee. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio what the piece of legislation entails.
“It helps to establish a training component. As we see more nuclear facilities coming online, it establishes a system by which those training programs at our Regent University system can be funded through some tax credits given to the facility. So essentially, we say, ‘You don’t have to pay these taxes in lieu of funding a training system for proper workers in the nuclear energy space.’”
Sinclair mentions that nuclear energy is once again an emerging space, especially with the recommissioning of the Dwayne Arnold Energy Center. She adds that nuclear energy is a field where those working in it need to be, and should be, properly trained and educated, and this bill would be a first step in ensuring that.
