May is Military Appreciation Month and one organization in Jefferson recently held its meeting where several members were recognized.

Jefferson American Legion Post #11 Adjutant Barb Labate says ten of their members earned their membership milestones. Vice-Commander Elvin Thompson received his 55-year certificate, Gerald Tannehill celebrated his 45th year and Louis Swanson was at 40 years. Two members were highlighted for 35 years as American Legion members, and those individuals were Gary Turner and Don Yepsen.

Labate points out that Eric Whitver and Fon Murphy each achieved 20-year milestones and Jack Tuhn was at 15 years. The last two members celebrated ten years, with Ivan Kennedy and Commander Fred Long at five years.

Labate reminds everyone that anyone who has served or who is serving in the armed forces is welcomed to attend their monthly meetings on the second Monday at 7pm at the Welcome Center at Thomas Jefferson Gardens. Contact Labate at 515-386-5547 or Thompson at 515-386-2072 to learn more.
