The Greene County Medical Center highlighted National Nursing Week with two distinguished awards on Thursday.

The ceremony started with the Partner of Nursing Award, where seven people were nominated by the nursing staff. Chief Nursing Officer Amanda Lass said the award embodies what it means to be that support team member who works alongside the nursing staff. The recipient of the Partner of Nursing Award was Elizabeth Tedder with Nutritional Services.

Working at the medical center for a little over seven months, Tedder talked about what she does as the tally clerk

“So I go to the patients room, I work with their dietary needs to figure out meals for them. I do stuff like fluid restrictions, carb counts, all that stuff, that’s what I take care of. A lot of the time, the patient just needs somebody to talk to. So I’ll sit with them and figure out what sounds good. And then, part of the day I get to spend down, walking the halls and visiting with the nursing team. That’s another great part of the day.”

The DAISY Award was next and it is given to a nurse who exemplifies going above and beyond for patient care. This year’s winner was Gretchen Spack with the Family Medicine Clinic. She has been at the medical center for 1.5 years and she described why she likes working in the Family Medicine Clinic.

“I just love working with different families, seeing them come back, seeing their conditions improve, (and) being their first line of call. When something goes wrong, they reach out to me and you know, that is a special connection that you form with your patients.”

There were six nominees for the DAISY Award this year. Nominations are accepted anytime for the DAISY Award and can be made by a patient or their family, co-workers and community members. Check out the full list of all of the nominees for both recognitions below.
