Today is the day all four Classes of girls and boys high school track & field in Iowa have State Qualifying Meets. Greene County travels to Story City and Roland-Story High School for a Class 2A meet and Paton-Churdan goes southwest to Audubon for 1A competition. In 2A, all first and second place finishers in each event automatically qualify for the May 21-23 Coed State Meet at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, while only the first place finishers automatically qualify for State in 1A. At-large qualifiers fill out the field of 24 for the State Meet in all four classes.
The Rams go into today’s action with eight top five performances for boys and seven top five performances for girls among the teams at Story City, but none are ranked first.
P-C is led by juniors Trevon Keely and Blaise Schilling. Keely, the 1A 2025 high jump State Champion is ranked first in the high jump and 200 meters, and second in the 100 meter dash. He’s also among the long jump leaders at Audubon. Schilling leads long jumpers at Audubon, and ranks in the top five in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes.
Teams will know their automatic State qualifiers after tonight’s meets, but the list list of At-Large qualifiers won’t be released until at least Friday.
