new opportunitiesDonations are still being accepted for the Warm Hearts program through New Opportunities of Greene County.

Coordinator Teresa Lansman says Warm Hearts is a program that was started two years ago to give less fortunate youth in the county a coat to use for winter.  This year, 72 families and 182 children are in need of a coat.  She explains why they continue to provide the program for families in the county.

“The families that are living paycheck to paycheck, they’re just trying to figure out where they’re going to put the food on the table and we can take this burden for keeping their kids warm off their shoulders for a little while.  We could not do it without the many generous people of the county helping us to be able to meet our goals.”

Donations will be accepted until October 15th at the New Opportunities office at 1401 North Elm Street in Jefferson.  Coat distribution will be at the St. Joseph’s Parish Center on October 17th.  Families can also sign up for Toys for Tots and Holiday Food Baskets during on October 17th as well.
