The City of Perry is getting ready to begin the annual budget process.

City Administrator Butch Niebuhr says the council and administration will be meeting with department heads to find out what capital improvement projects they hope to accomplish in the upcoming fiscal year.  Neibuhr says the majority of capital improvement projects are funded through the local option sales tax dollars. While other projects are funded through the road use tax fund, which is targeted toward work on the streets.

Niebuhr says they will then meet with City department heads again for round two after council has a chance to things over.

He says just 8 weeks is not very long to put together a $6 million budget, while looking 16 to 18 months ahead.  Fortunately, the City has a lot of people that know what they’re doing.

City budgets are due to the state by mid-March.
