The annual Hershey track meet in Jefferson will be on Tuesday, April 30th.

Parks and Recreation Director Vicky Lautner says due to weather this week, the track meet was moved to Tuesday where hopefully sunny and warmer weather will allow for some great competition.

Lautner states Greene County youngest from 9-14 year olds will compete to qualify for the Iowa Parks and Recreation Association state track meet in Marshalltown in June.  Lautner comments that 5-8 year olds can also participate but aren’t eligible for the state meet.

The kids will challenge each other in a variety of track and field events like 100-1,600 meter races, standing long jump and a softball throw.

Lautner notes that each competitor will a certificate and a Hershey candy bar and first through third place finish will earn a ribbon.  Only first place will move on to the state track meet.

Pre-registration is encouraged but not required for the free competition.  Registration begins at 4:30pm on Tuesday with the meet to start at 5pm at Linduska Park in Jefferson.  To sign up or for more information, call the Greene County Community Center at 386-3412.
