Greene County ExtensionAnyone interested in learning more about the details of the newly agreed upon 2014 Farm Bill are invited to a free overview meeting in Jefferson next week.

Greene County ISU Extension Coordinator Lori Mannel says the meeting will cover topics related to Price Loss Coverage (PLC) and Agriculture Risk Coverage (ARC) along with complications with Supplemental Coverage Option and Non-insured Crop Disaster Assistance Program.  There will also be information on base reallocation, yield updates and Dairy Margin Protection Program.

The facilitators of the meeting will be ISU Extension farm management specialist Shane Ellis and the Greene County FSA executive director Tracy Zimmerman.

It will be at the St. Joseph’s Parish Center in Jefferson from 9am-noon on Tuesday, December 16th.  Even though it is a free meeting, Mannel adds that they are limiting it to the first 175 registrations.  She talks about why they are requiring people to sign up ahead of time.

“We wanted to have a comfortable environment so that people can hear and see and really obtain this information.  The people that I saw in Ogden were glued, they did not move.  This is a very important issue for farmers and operators and landowners.”

A catered lunch will also be provided for those who attended the meeting.

The deadline to register is by 4:30pm on Friday, December 12th.  Call the Extension office in Jefferson at 386-2138 to sign up.
