The biggest Greene County boys’ basketball victory of the 2013-14 season was an upset of then Class 2A fourth ranked PCM (Monroe) in Jefferson last January. That win came during a 6-16 season, which could give encouragement to the 2014-15 Rams, who, after starting 3-0 are now 4-5 following a 60-57 loss on Saturday night in Gowrie to non-conference opponent Southeast Valley. The Rams led 48-35 vs. the Jaguars with 7:13 to play in the fourth quarter, then gave up 25 points the rest of the way and lost for the fifth time in six games to fall to 4-5 overall. SEV improved to 7-3 on the season. Junior Conner Conrad had 26 points for SEV while Ram sophomore Trey Tucker scored 22. Free throw shooting was a big difference in Gowrie with the home team making their first 15 charity tosses and finishing 20 of 23. The Rams were five of 13 from the line in the last quarter and 14 of 29 overall.

PCM comes to Jefferson after handing Class 3A top 10 rated Gilbert their first loss of the season. The Mustangs won by one point at Gilbert on Friday night on a last second three-point shot. PCM, Gilbert, and Roland-Story are at the top of the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference with just one league loss. Nevada is fourth with two conference losses and Greene County is fifth at 4-3.

The PCM/Greene County girl/boy twin bill will be the first home games of 2015 for the Rams and both contests can be heard on KG98. Air time is 5:45 p.m. with the girls’ game at 6 p.m. and the boys to follow.
