Greene County RamsThe Greene County Ram volleyball team is organizing a fundraiser to raise cancer awareness.

Head coach Donna Carhill says her players created the “Blocking Out Cancer” campaign and will be selling t-shirts for fans to wear.

“The basketball team has a ‘Pink Out Night’ and we didn’t want to duplicate that.  So they came up with this concept instead of the pink, they’re using purple as their theme color, as their service project.”

Carhill points out that she has a personal tie to her team’s initiative.

“My dad was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer this summer and so that’s the purple color.  I’m going to let the kids research where they think would be best, whether to make a general donation, or to the Greene County Medical Center or to send it to a national organization (for cancer) research, I’m going to let the kids decide that.”

The “Blocking Out Cancer” match is on October 8th when the Rams host North Polk.  Fans are encouraged to order t-shirts before their home match.  Contact the high school at 386-2188 for more information.
