Class 3A number 11 Roland-Story (Story City) didn’t have an easy time, but did win  a Heart of Iowa Activities Conference softball game in Jefferson against Greene County on Monday night. The game was heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. The 5-3 final marked the first time the Norsemen have allowed a run this season. R-S is 6-0 overall and 4-0 in conference play while the Rams drop to 2-5 on the season and 2-2 in the league. The contest wasn’t without its lapses as both teams were charged with four errors.

R-S took a first inning lead of 3-0 and never trailed. Pitchers Sydney Mathis and Riley Holmgren combined to strike out 14 Rams while giving  up five hits. Greene County made it 3-1 in the fourth and R-S countered with two fifth inning runs for a 5-1 lead. Greene County completed the scoring with two sixth inning runs.

R-S senior Madison Friest hit a first inning solo homer, her fourth of the young season.

Danielle Hoyle doubled in a run for Greene County. Jenna Beyers and Samantha Hardaway each had RBI base hits. Megan Carey and Melanie Doran both had infield hits.

Hardaway and Beyers split the pitching duties with the former going the first three innings and taking the loss.
