As Governor Kim Reynolds has only allowed swimming pools to open for the purpose of swim lessons and lap swimming, the Guthrie Center City Council discussed their plans for opening up the municipal aquatic center at their meeting Tuesday.

After discussion with Parks and Rec Board President Chris Bunde and other Board members, the Council decided to direct Public Works Director Bob Secoy to fill the pool with water so they are prepared before making a formal decision at their June 8th meeting. The Council members repeatedly expressed their wish to continue to provide an outlet for kids during the summer, especially after holding a bond referendum last November to build a new pool bathhouse and public restroom at Mitchell Park. In other items, the Council approved the fiscal year 2020 budget amendment, a resolution approving the contract and performance and/or payment bonds for the bathhouse project, and after opening bids they awarded the contract to Feldmann & Company CPAs, P.C. of Carroll to do their fiscal year 2020 audit, with a bid of $6,745.
