Applications are now being accepted for a newly formed economic development grant that will help area businesses prepare for the future.

The Perry Chamber of Commerce, Perry Economic Development, and the City of Perry have developed the new Modernization and Protection Grant in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Perry Chamber Director Lynsi Pasutti tells Raccoon Valley Radio the motivation for this stems from the many state and federal programs focusing on recovering losses from the recent closures.

Grants of $1,500 to $7,500 will be awarded. Pasutti says the range of projects that they’ll consider is relatively wide, “It’s not just a relief program of what’s been lost and how we’re trying to regain that, but really how can we steady our foothold so that we’re still able to look forward despite any challenges that come forward. So we’re looking forward to see what kind of projects businesses have already started or are looking to start. Even if they have a past expense in March, throughout the summer, or if they’re planning on having a project, there is quite a range of eligibility.”

Pasutti says she hopes to have more information posted on their website in the next week or so. Business owners interested in applying can reach out to the Chamber office at (515) 465-4601.
