A safe environment for middle school-aged kids in Greene County to go to is finally opening its doors once again.

The Webb House is across the street from the First United Methodist Church in Jefferson, and it’s a place that middle school kids can go to socialize and play games in a safe environment with adult supervision. Methodist Church Pastor Julie Poulsen says the Webb House will open for the first time this school year on Wednesday, January 20th from 3:30-5:30pm. Then it will be open Fridays from 7-9pm, as well as Wednesdays from 3:30-5:30pm for the rest of the school year.

Pastor Julie notes there are COVID-19 precautions for kids to follow, including wearing masks and using hand sanitizer upon arriving. They will also limit the number of kids that are inside the building to adhere to social distancing. Adult volunteers are also needed for Friday evenings. Interested individuals are to contact the church and pass a background check.

Prior to the Webb House opening, there will be a fundraising meal. The menu will include lasagna, salad, bread and a dessert for a free-will donation. Meals must be ordered by Friday at noon and can be picked up under the Methodist Church canopy from 11:30am-12:30pm this Sunday. Contact the church to reserve a meal by calling 515-386-4411

Pastor Julie is eager to open the Webb House again to serve the kids in the county. She adds that they will close the Webb House if the county’s 14-day positivity rate goes over 15-percent or if the Greene County School District closes the school buildings again.
