Temperatures that are below freezing or even below zero may cause some issues inside your home.
Jefferson Fire Chief Jack Williams reminds owners or renters of older residences to make sure to keep water faucets at a slow drip to keep metal pipes from freezing during colder temperatures.
“Especially for older homes. Just a slow drip into the sink will help keep it from freezing, it won’t stop it (from freezing) but it will help prevent it.”
Williams notes that if a frozen pipe should burst, it could cause flooding inside the home or a worse situation could happen if the main water line had to be shut off during the winter months. He advises to exercise some of the other areas of the home that don’t get used frequently in the winter and run warm water through the system to make sure it is cleaned up to prevent further issues.
