Motorists in Greene County will be faced with challenges on the roads with several inches of snowfall to come through the area.

Not only will motorists need to be aware to drive to the conditions of the road, but visibility could also be reduced with wind gusts. Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams talks about using a vehicle’s high beams in those situations and driving through blowing snow at night.

“You can use your high beams, but I wouldn’t recommend it because it just reflects more snow back at you, which makes it harder to see. If you have fog lights, they are lower to the ground and you can use those in addition (to regular headlights). But you also do have to remember you have to shut those off when oncoming traffic is coming because it will blind the other drivers faster.”

Williams recommends not traveling when there are “white out” conditions, where the wind causes snow to blow and it’s difficult for a motorist to see in front of them. However, if you are traveling in “white out” conditions and are driving below the posted speed limit, use the vehicle’s four-way flashers so you are more visible to other motorists on the road.
