
A semi rear-ended another vehicle on Highway 30 in Greene County Monday morning that resulted in two injuries.
According to Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams, at 8:34am, the Sheriff’s Office, along with Grand Junction Fire and Rescue and Greene County Ambulance responded to the incident at 16th Street and Highway 30, near the Casey’s General Store in Grand Junction. Williams says a 2020 Chevrolet Malibu was traveling eastbound on the highway and was stopped to turn left onto 16th Street, when a Freightliner semi-tractor that was hauling grain rear-ended the Malibu.
Williams states that the debris from the collision hit an eastbound 2023 Chevrolet Traverse that caused minimal damage. He notes that the driver of the semi, Dennis Smalley of Jefferson, was uninjured and the 17-year-old driver of the Malibu was injured and taken to Greene County Medical Center, along with a passenger who was also injured. Williams adds that Smalley was issued a citation for failure to stop in assured, cleared distance and the Malibu was a total loss.
