April is National Sexual Assault Awareness Month and one organization hosted a program on Friday in Greene County to talk about their services.
Danielle Janssen is the Rural Sexual Abuse Advocate with Assault Care Center Extending Shelter and Support (ACCESS) talked about supporting individuals who want to get out of situations or relationships that are sexually abusive. She gave a presentation during the Java and Juice program at the Greene County ISU Extension Office with Jefferson Matters. She mentioned that their organization is based in Ames and they provide shelter for survivors and work with those individuals to connect them with any services they may need.
Janssen also talked about giving support to sexual abuse survivors through the court system with hearings, interviews with lawyers and they also work with local organizations for referrals from Greene County New Opportunities and other groups. She stated that they are also looking for individuals to serve on the Greene County Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence. Contact Janssen at 515-292-0500 to learn more.
