The West Central Valley Soccer Teams hosted their eighth game of the season in Stuart on Monday versus Van Meter, as the girls tied 1-1, and the boys nabbed their eighth victory at 2-1 to stay unbeaten.

In the boys contest, the Wildcats charged into the game at 7-0, as senior Aiden Brandon was able to record the first goal of the game with a header 10 minutes in for the 1-0 advantage. The Bulldogs would respond with just over 12 minutes left in the first half, as senior Henry Lounsbury kicked the ball from the left side of the field to get the tying goal, leading to a 1-1 score at the break.

Much of the second half was scoreless, seeing both teams play good defense, but West Central Valley’s Brandon found success with about eight minutes remaining to push the Wildcats in front 2-1, and they would hold on to win by that margin.

Van Meter falls to 4-3-1 on the season, and West Central Valley stays unblemished at 8-0 overall.

On the girls side, the Wildcats came into the match 7-0, as junior Addilynn Richter opened the scoring four minutes into the game to give West Central Valley the 1-0 lead. Then a little over the halfway mark of the first half, Wildcat senior Roman Hammond was called for tripping Bulldog freshman Julia Teigland, giving her a penalty shot as she got it past West Central Valley junior Rhowen Miller to tie the game at 1-1.

Both teams would have opportunities in the second half to score, but neither would, leading to a 1-1 tie to end the contest. With the mark, the Wildcats are now 7-0-1, with Van Meter going to 4-3-2 on the year.

The Bulldogs will travel to Panora tonight to face Panorama at 5:30pm, while West Central Valley will host third-ranked in Class 1A Des Moines Christian in Stuart this afternoon at 5:30pm.
