
After being postponed by weather on Monday, Greene County hosted Harlan Community in Class 2A boys’ Substate 8 soccer on Tuesday at Linduska Field in Jefferson. The Rams won 2-0 to advance to the semifinal round on May 27 vs. 8-6-2 vs. Bishop Heelan in Sioux City. Harlan ends its season with eight wins, eight losses, and two ties.
Coach Chad Black’s team improved to 8-5 and 2025 is the only time the Rams haven’t advanced beyond the opening round of the postseason. There was no season in 2020 due the Pandemic.
The Rams broke a scoreless tie with 24:08 left in the second half when senior Fredy Aguilar put the ball in the net for the twelfth time this season. The 1-0 lead became 2-0 with 8:25 left on a header goal by senior Carter Hinote. The goal was his fourth in 2026 and and senior Franklin Regalado had the assist.
Sophomore Jadyn Weber was in goal all night for the Rams and he and the rest of the defense pitched a shutout. It was Greene County’s second shutout this season and the first for Weber. The Cyclones have been shut out
The contest saw the Rams get charged with four yellow cards while the Cyclones were charged with one yellow and one red card.
