With the official start date for Iowa high school boys basketball practices nearing closer and closer, for ACGC head boys basketball coach Jake Mohling, it offers more than just another chance at a state run, but a chance to do so with height.
Certainly a season of firsts with the inaugural season of ACGC boys basketball and the first time coach Mohling has had significant size in the low post to work with. Coach Mohling spoke with Raccoon Valley Radio on the newly acquired height for his team and what it allows for his offense here in the new season.
“This is going to be the first time I’ve had height more so than our guard play. My teams have always been very guard dominated and now we are post dominated. We’ve gone from a ball screen offense, and I do still think we will use the ball screen as a way to get our post entries but it will consist of we need that ball in the high or low post or short corner almost every trip down,” explained coach Mohling.
Coach Mohling and his newly formed Charger team kicks off their season on Monday and will have just over a week from that point before their first competitive action takes place on November 22nd against Logan Magnolia in the Jamboree contest at Elk-Horn-Kimbalton High School. With the Jamboree contest the Chargers will play in two 8 minute quarters and it will all kick off at 6:00 pm
