Children learn nutrition, physical activity and other health behaviors by observing and imitating adults.

Guthrie County Extension Office is hosting Actions Speak Louder Than Words on April 17 from 6:30 to 8:30 P.M. at their offices located at 212 State Street in Guthrie Center.

While attending, you will experience “less than ideal” role modeling, hear and see parents’ opinions of role modeling, and develop an action plan to foster more positive role modeling to help children engage in more health-promoting behaviors & practices.

Participants will develop a list of health related behaviors to role model for children.  They will learn to differentiate desirable and undesirable modeling of identified health related behaviors.  Instructors will paraphrase parents’ expectations of health related behavior role modeling by caregivers.  Discussion will be held on setting personal goals & developing plans for role modeling, positive nutrition and physical activity related behaviors. Lastly, the positive impact of role modeling on the caregiver/child relationship will be described.

Guthrie County Extension Office Program Director Mary Ebert asks those interested in attending to please register by April 10.  There is a $10 registration fee and the public is invited to attend Ebert added.
