Our local County Fair queens are spending the next few days in Des Moines as they compete for the Iowa State Fair Queen crown.

Dallas County Fair Queen Madison Gavin says she’s excited to make new memories at the fair and compete with girls across the state.

The state contest kicked off Tuesday and coronation takes place Saturday night.

All contestants are between the ages of 16 and 21and live in the county she represents.  They are judged based on personality, attitude, appearance and awareness, leadership and citizenship, contribution to community, overall appearance, charm and poise.
