August is National Breastfeeding Month, and Greene County Public Health has some reminders to give mothers and women who are breastfeeding.

Greene County Public Health Director Becky Wolf says for working moms who are breastfeeding, there is a federal law that requires employers to provide a location at their workplace to breastfeed or pump for breastmilk. She also recommends a clean and safe workplace location for breastfeeding, with suitable conditions.

“If we have satisfied employees, we need to provide satisfying conditions to help these moms. They are productive workers and we need to encourage that. There will be less absentee time because the babies will be healthier from most infections (by having breast milk).”

Wolf encourages any new mothers to contact Greene County Public Health for more information or help with breastfeeding.
