Tradition is an important aspect of all high schools Homecomings, and you shouldn’t expect a school that currently holds an 80-year-old trophy for a football rivalry to be shy of traditions.  One tradition that Perry High School students participate in is spending time during homecoming week and volunteering in the community, from washing cars to picking up trash and even helping local businesses with odd jobs.

Belinda Morman of New Hope Village said some of the things Perry High School students helped out with included, “Straightened books, they cleaned the shelves, transferred some of my holiday stuff to another place, organized clothes, carried some totes for me, put up Christmas trees,” Morman said.  “They did a whole lot for me.”

Morman had work for 20 students to do and she highly suggests that the community uses the help that Perry High School offers.  “Perry should take advantage of this because it is a wonderful thing,” recommended Morman.  “They were very helpful.  I enjoy them every year and I think this is my fourth year of having them.”

Morman gives a little back to the students too, as she treats them to donuts and a drink.  Morman described that the students she received helped from as “terrific” and said that most of them went on to wash windows at the Masonic home after they left New Hope.
